If it weren’t for the internet I’m pretty sure life as I know it would’ve ended around the time I moved out to live on my own. We were the family that did everything (annoyed as we were of it) together. Even if we needed a carton of milk, dad would load us all in the ‘family sedan’ and drive to the super market. We all made our mothers day gifts at home and mom always put oranges in the toe of our Christmas stockings. I knew when my parents got old; they’d be the old people who hated technology and used CDs for coasters.
The good part about living alone was that I could use any and all kinds of battery powered stuff to organize my life and the greatest convenience I found was in online shopping! Mom used to go nuts trying to find mothers day gifts for grandma and dad would lose his mind when he had to buy mothers day gifts from the store. I’d seen a relentless stream of flowers sent to my grandparents. I’ve never admitted it to my mom but I always buy gifts online. (The shock would be too much for my parents, they still haven’t recovered from the first credit card fraud that hit America).
The internet’s never failed me to date. Last year while my sister (who doesn’t trust websites) was trying to make my ears bleed from her insane talk about mothers day gifts, I was holding the phone to one ear saying ‘yeah’ and ‘ok’ at appropriate intervals, while shopping for mothers day fruit baskets online. I found a really unique fruit gift for my mom; a fruit bouquet! It had all kinds of covered in chocolate. There were chocolate dipped strawberries and oranges and pineapples half dipped in chocolate. The fruit bouquets looked like flowers (except they were made from fruit) and mom just loved them. She’s convinced that something that good can’t have come from the evil internet, I say whatever makes mom happy!.
